Spin

Today Lucas started spinning. I’m not really sure why or what brought it on, he just started spinning in circles until he falls over and then laughs about it, gets up and spins again. ive held him up and spun him around before, but not any time in the last week, so i have no idea why he has started spinning today.
————————————————–

today im downstairs working on girl scout paperwork and lucas and paul are upstairs. i heard a noise of something clunking down the stairs and when i went to look, i found that lucas was taking his magnets and shoving them thru the crack under the basement door because he knows i’m down here.

My Week in Review

Saturday: Lucas’s 1st Birthday!! this event should probably require a post of its own, since i’d like to type a lot about it, but right now i’m too tired to do so.

Sunday: Mother’s Day – mom, ron, and i went to the Fox Theatre to see the musical Mary Poppins. it was sooo good! it was better than the movie. it was basically the same story, but they changed a bunch of stuff to make it a little more adult/deeper. like the mom had a bit more of a role/ issues of her own, there was an evil nanny bad guy, etc. i was so impressed with the special effects – i still can’t figure out how they did her magic carpet bag! afterward, we ate at a Thai restaurant called Tamarind Seed. i had something similar to Indian chicken korma. it was really good except lacking the yummy naan bread that i feel completes korma.

Monday and Tuesday: nothing exciting, just a Girl Scout leader meeting Tues night for me to pick up all the troops’ registration forms. I’m the Registrar and Troop Organizer for our service unit, so I process all the forms for the Acworth and some Kennesaw schools.

Wednesday : First of all, wednesday is a weird word. its spelling makes no sense. it’s like someone meant to spell it wendsday but typoed it and it just stuck. anyhow, wendsday morning we dropped off Eleanor Erin at the shop to have the AC fixed and the stereo replaced. later that afternoon we picked her up and she is finally all better and i can drive her around again, yay! wendsday night i had girl scouts. we worked on the activities to bridge to Juniors. as usual they were obnoxiously loud and misbehaved. this summer i’m going to work on coming up with ideas to make them behave bette, because while on the one hand i think working with them is fun, they are always so rowdy that i never look forward to the regular meetings and i’m relieved that we only have one meeting left.

thursday: in the morning the 3 of us went to walmart to exchange some of lucas’s toys. i got a bunch of new stuff for him, including: a mini basketball hoop and ball, a bowling set, wooden blocks, a leapfrog drum, some popup toy thing, a tiny baby swimming pool, and some other little things. in the afternoon, mom and i went to the scholastic book fair and i went a little nuts on buying books for lucas. some he’ll have to grow in to, but he has a ton for now, too, including two star wars books.at the book fair i saw Kelsey from high school. i haven’t seen her in like ten years and i didn’t know if she’d recognize/remember me, so i felt all weird and didn’t say anything to her. then i was mad at myself the whole way home that i don’t even have the confidence to speak to an old friend.

friday: lucas’s one year old checkup. not much to say, he got more shots which he totally didnt love. did you know there is a vaccine now for chicken pox? i have his stats written down somewhere, but off the top of my head, he was 23 lbs 4.5 oz which is the 54%; i think he was 32 in tall? which was the 96%! they did a blood test and his iron count was 13 when you want to have at least an 11…maybe that’s why the kid is so darn strong. on the drive home we saw a sign in front of the house a couple of houses down from us that said “free stuff” and had a bunch of baby stuff sitting near the road. it looked like it had all been sitting out in the rain for awhile because it was kinda muddy, but we grabbed several items anyway.

Saturday: today i plan on sitting home and vegging/working on girl scout work.

Sunday: tomorrow evening i have a scrapbook class meeting

beauty school

– At 12 months old, babies usually range from 27.75 inches long and 18 pounds (10th percentile) to 30.5 inches long and 23.75 pounds (90th percentile). i guess lucas is still in the 90+% because i think he is about 31in (not like he’ll actually hold still for an exact measurement) and i haven’t weighed him yet but im sure it’s like 24 lbs. (was 23 last month anyhow).

– ive decided to go to cosmetology school and learn how to cut hair. if the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, my picture is in the dictionary. i was straightening my hair tonight and the front left piece just would.not.straighten. so i got mad at it and cut it off. on the bright side, lucas’s hair has decently grown back to look less stupid now.

– im really excited about tomorrow. i still haven’t finished getting everything together so i should be doing that instead of typing here, but, see above comment about how i’m stupid.

– i have a drinking problem

Sunday

– i remembered some stuff i had meant to add on yesterday’s post: when paul and i were driving to walmart, a red fox leaped across the road in front of us. there was a second thing, but now i have forgotten again.

– on to sunday: mom came over today and we made a major dent in cleaning up the basement today and paul got the cat room pretty much completely done. those were the two worst areas of the whole house. i still havent had a lot of RSVPs for lucas’s bday next saturday, so i guess it’s going to be a pretty small party. i meant to go get the cake today, but i didn’t.

– lucas: today lucas learned how to climb up on the couch! then he learned to slap his hands! paul was sitting on the couch and lucas wanted up with him, so he grabbed his shirt and hauled his body up onto the couch. i was so excited i said “yay lucas!!” and started clapping my hands. he immediately started mimicking me by clapping his own hands! later we went down to the basement and i called paul upstairs for a sec to help me with the ice maker. we came back down and lucas was sitting on the futon! he’d climbed right up on it and was sitting there playing with his kickball.getting back down is another matter…he seems to think head first is the way to go.

– it really bugs me that when i post these, all the stuff gets smushed up together without any <br>

Saturday

– today paul was taking a shower. lucas goes over, pulls back the curtain, sees him in there, and crawled into the shower with his clothes on

– paul and i (sorta) worked on the garage today and got it nearly finished. then we went to walmart and got some storage bins for me to start sorting thru the junk in the basement. who knew i had soooo many girl scout supplies. i was going thru a bunch of old papers of his dads that were in the 3rd garage, and i found a handful of old pix of paul as a baby, paul’s mom when she was young, and some unknown kid that i’m guessing is paul’s brother bobby. there was also a graduation announcement and a wedding invitation for bobby.

– i got a new fridge on friday!!

– we are definitely moving sometime in the next 6 months. i’ve started looking at houses. it won’t be the big pretty house i thought i would be moving to next year, but oh well i’ll just have to deal. i’m going to keep a lookout for houses that meet all my criteria over the next few months while we save up for a down payment, and then either when i find something fabulous or we get enough money, we will move. i’m hoping for a foreclosure on a house that is out of our league so we can nab one for cheap, otherwise i’m seriously considering matt and sarah’s neighborhood in brookhaven which is actually a neighborhood i had picked out before they ever even moved there.

the house sitch

for those of you that don’t know about what all is going on with our house, here is an update. we found out earlier this week or last week or whenever that the house is not actually ours, and that giving it to us had been a mistake. the people had transferred it to us based on his dad’s Last Will and Testament that gave us the house. then when the tax assessor was looking things over, she found that they had made an error (or more importantly/specifically, the lawyer that made the Will made an error). The property he owned was split into 3 pieces: a 2 acre, a 3 acre, and a 10 acre. his mom’s house is the 10 acre, our house is on the 3 acre, and the 2 acre is our yard. now the deed for the 3 acre plot that our house is on got switched to a Joint Right Of Tenant Survivorship, which means that if one of them dies, the property automatically belongs to the other person named. apparently this is commonly done when people set up mortgages on houses for paperwork purposes. so, since the house deed was JTROS it automatically went fully to Paul’s mom and is not considered as part of the estate his dad left behind, making the part of the Will saying we get the house void. so the end outcome of all this is….his mom gets the house and we own the damn front yard.

this leaves us with two options:

1. have his mom sign the house over to us and everything is all fine and dandy. unfortunately, paul says there is no way in hell that she will do that. 2. pack up and move

semi-sharmed kinda life

i got a new fridge! it doesnt arrive until friday, but i’m excited. goodbye 17 year old ugly one and hello fancy new one. i got the kind like susan has that has the freezer as a drawer on the bottom.

i gave paul and lucas my cold, but i, however, feel great. i told mom on sat i was sick and she told me to get this zycam stuff to take and by monday i was better!too bad i cant give it to babies.

so this is the londa luck i have:

i started reading this YA vamp series i picked up at the grocery store. i got the first 4 books at the store and just finished the 4th last night at 11:30pm. i was bummed because i knew that there are 2 more that have come out after those, but the store closes at 11 so i couldn’t run out and get the next one. these are those annoying kinds of books that don’t end even though youve run out of pages, so you have to go get the next one to find out what happens. so i had to wait until today to pick up 5 and 6. as i’m walking into BAM, i see a poster on the window that book 7 came out *today*. how crazy is that. id have had to go back again for book 7 if i had gone to the bookstore last night.

cakes

yesterday i had a girl scout errand to meet with the old registrar so she could train me in my new position. afterward, instead of going home i spontaneously decided to head to cartersville to go to a bakery. i need to get a cake for lucas’s birthday party. turns out they can totally do the cake i was wanting. downside is, i didn’t think their sample tasted all that great. so jenn and i are going to go to gabriel’s on saturday after visiting matt and jenny and try out cakes. i also have to figure out what kind of cake i want to get. i think the only reasonable, responsible thing to do in this situation would be to try out all the cakes before i decide 😉

i'm on a rock high

weds night kristie and i went to our annual Nickelback concert! it was such an *awesome* lineup! Sick Puppies, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, and Nickelback!!!! (only one missing was trapt to have had all my most favorite bands)

so i was pretty disappointed because we missed Sick Puppies and i loovvee them. the tickets said 6:30pm and we were in our seats at 6:33pm just in time to catch their last song. when i got home i checked their website and they went on at 615 wtf!?

so our seats were kinda crappy sound-wise. we were under an overhang, and on the side of the stage, and right under a crappy speaker. this caused poor sound quality. ya know when you turn your music up too loud for the speakers and it makes kinda i guess a staticy type noise? it was like that coming thru that speaker.

my last complaint was that it just wasnt darn long enough. i mean i know they are just opening bands, but i wish all three of them could have had like a full concert each.

all the bands were great. shinedown’s lead singer somehow was not what i might have expected..he almost seemed polite or something. nickelback, as always, was entertaining. chad kroeger is such a partier. he’s joked before that they should just stop what they were doing and we all hang out and get drunk and them just start passing out the alcohol, well this year they actually did it! they had several crates full of tequila shots and they started passing them out to the audience from the stage, lol. then later when they were doing the tshirt canons, they started throwing cups full of beer as well.

tim, their guitarist that plays only some of the songs came out and chad was chatting with him and saying what a great guitarist he was and had him first play the mario bros nintendo music and then he played the first couple of lines of bon jovi’s dead or alive. so hot!

they sang some country song that i don’t know very well but have heard before – that one about “i’ve got friends in low places.” chad could totally be a country singer as well, he has a great country style voice.

so as usual, kristie and i had a fabulous time at the nickelback concert!!!

La Vida Vampire

La Vida Vampire by Nancy Haddock

Summary Deal :: Cesca (sess-ka) is a vampire that tries to be human and works as a tour guide in FL. Then someone from one of her tours turns up dead and they suspect her. So she ends up working with the police and a paranormal creatures expert named Saber to solve the murder. A side story includes an old wizard, a cat that shapeshifts into a panther, and an old flame that shapeshifts into a dolphin. the wizard that “created” Cat and dolphin-boy says that there is a big bad evil coming and he needs Cesca’s powers combined with dolphin-boy’s powers to fend it off, but this is barely included in this first book.

Major player break down :: Francesca is a 200+ yr old mind-reading, future-seeing vampire that’s been in the ground for about 200 yrs of it…so she is new to the modern world and wants to fit in..surfing, salsa dancing, having a job as a tour guide…she is the most un-vampire Ive ever “met”. Deke Saber is the love interest that is playing bodyguard since she is being targeted by various meanies. Then there is the wizard and the cat, but they dont appear too much.

Classification :: it is classified as paranormal romance, but i classify it as chicklit/mystery

Action/Romance :: romance luckily is light and is all the sexual tension btwn vampire chicky and Saber. action is fairly light, too, since it’s a murder mystery and it is more running around trying to solve the case/talk to people than actual fighting.

Overall Opinions :: 2/5 stars. it would be ok as a Pocket Book. i didn’t not like it, but it certainly wasn’t anything special. the beginning where the wizard talks about the ominous bad guy coming and how their powers combined are needed to stop it felt contrived. there was nothing about the plot that required her to be a vampire, so all the paranormal stuff thrown in occasionally like the Cat seemed a little out-of-place next to the “some chick got shot and Cesca happened to know her” main plot. neither her (lack of) vampiric abilities nor the psychic gift she has were necessary to solve the murder – hence my opinion that making her a vampire was unnecessary to this book. the character of Saber was kinda flat. he’s this gorgeous, perfect guy that she calls by his last name even when she is sleeping with him. i think the only quote that i found lol funny was the one i posted on jenn’s blog. so i guess my overall opinion is that i would recommend for lauren or sarah, but probably not for jenn since this book really was more of light-reading chicklit than a vampire novel.

Rereadability :: none, while i don’t regret the time spent reading the first one, it wasn’t worth a second read.
Getting Next Book :: maybe if i’m bored, and i wouldn’t mind reading the second one, but i have no desire to run out and get it. the 3rd one doesnt come out until spring 2011.
