look at the elephants

paul, in trying to entertain lucas, says “hey look at the elephants” and i turned around at the “hey look at” and he’s like “not you dumbass”

oreos are currently my primary form of sustenance

my right foot is asleep, again.

ya know that obnoxious music all kids toys seem to play? apparently its cause it actually works

oww my right foot hurts

does anyone know how to play a priest? i cant remember. it took me like 3 hours or something to DL all the patches and mods and reset my screen the way i wanted and redo my talents. on the armory page it listed me as “untalented”. now thats just rude.

lauren – i just answered like 3 of your previous comments

just stuff

Today was Sarah’s wedding shower which was fun 🙂 One of her friends was surprised that i was out and about only 3 weeks after birth. afterward, kristie showed me how to use my car’s navigation system and i used it on the drive back up from peachtree city. it was pretty nifty…it showed me upcoming exits off the interstate, drive time/mileage to my destination, and lowered my music for me each time it “spoke” directions to me.

i hate when im listening to a brand new CD and i start recognizing songs on it. usually when that happens it means that i already own the CD and have bought the same darn CD twice w/o realizing it.

i got my birth announcements today so am going to be sending those out. im excited about that.

lucas had a 4 hour stretch followed by a 3 hour stretch last night! too bad i was up for half of it cause i wasnt expecting him to sleep so long. anyhow so i only ended up waking up for the 4am feeding and that was it.

im in the process of downloading WOW.

3 Weeks

Lucas turned 3 weeks old today 🙂

last night paul took lucas all night so i got to sleep from 3am to 1pm yay!

ive also got my appetite back…thepast two days ive been eating normally the way i used to. it might be in part to paul having bought something called Dark Chocolate Dreams which is basically peanut butter + chocolate that ive been making sandwiches with.

yesterday dad’s cleaning lady cleaned our whole house top to bottom as a present from dad. very awesome to have mopped floors etc for once. i might see about having her come once a month or something if it’s not too expensive.

Time Flies

i used to be pretty good about keeping track of appointments/dealing with the business of life (as in dealing with my mail or whatever stuff has to be taken care of). now its like i live in a daze, put everything off until later, and suddenly im getting all these calls/emails cause it’s now “later” and i hadnt realized it. dad is having his maid clean my house tomorrow which he had emailed me about two weeks ago and i totally forgot. poor lady was calling me all day trying to figure things out for tomorrow and i was clueless. then also i had an email from sarah cause her wedding shower is saturday which id totally forgotten about ( i thought it was in like june or something) and had never RSVPed for. if she hadnt sent me a msg about it i would have totally forgotten and missed it, ack! one of these days here soon im also going to have to attack my growing Inbox before more stuff passes me by.

tomorrow we have to go back to the pediatrician for the state required newborn screening test thingy. they take his blood and test for like 9 diseases including one called maple syrup urine or something like that. luckily paul will be home afterall. since he wasnt helping the users the past two days he asked Mike if he was really needed in the office and Mike said no. so yay the two of us can go back to our normal (or what now passes for normal) sleep schedules.

i think i might give lucas a bath tonight. he managed to get spit-up in his hair which in effect gelled it into crazy spikes.

Going back to work is blah…

Just as an aside, my birthday was Monday – May 25th.  Today when I got to work a bunch of Director level managers sent me (automated) emails wishing me a Happy Birthday.

If the people at the Director level of my company have nothing better to do then to write little automated birthday email scripts then I’d like to have their jobs or I believe we could do a little downsizing…

Through some unfound Herculean force of will, I was actually able to be nice to my co-workers this morning.  But nobody decide to poke me with the proverbial stick either, they were (stupidly) happy to see me back.  I was trying to be well-behaved but I’m glad people aren’t wanting to talk to me though.

So Ally didn’t let me fully go through with my plan of having Lucas all night but I did take the early, early morning shift from 4:30ish (I really have to clue) to 8:30 am then I headed off to work.  About 5:30 am, he decided he was hungry and then I fed him a couple of ounces.  After burping him and changing the diaper, he started doing the fussy, funky chicken dance and I gave him another ounce of food.  Burped him again, and then he did the less spastic version of the dance (which I guess means, I’m still hungry but I don’t need too much more) and gave him whatever was left at the bottom of the bottle.

After that I swaddled him fairly tightly (no Hulkamania with busting his arms out) and told him that I’d never even consider buying him a car if he didn’t fall asleep.  Turned the swing to the  “OH MY GOD, HOLD ON!” setting and he went to sleep.  I fairly certain the (empty) threat worked and Lucas wanted a car.

He woke up about 7:45ish after that so then we did the whole thing over again – diaper change, feeding, funky chicken (while grimicing) dance, little more food, and then satisfied.  Of course, it was about 8:30 or so before I got all this completed.  I swaddled him up and laid him in the pack ‘n play near Ally upstairs and got ready for work.

Kissed Ally and Abby (in that order, Ally doesn’t like dog slobber).  And waved bye to Baby Lucas (as to not disturb sleepage).  Now I’m in the cubicle farm slaving away to bring you this blog post (oops, I probably should be fixing David’s crappy code right now).

(Not) Sleeping

So this is what it is like trying to sleep with a newborn.

3:08 am – 3:28am he wakes up to feed and be changed.

3:28 – 3:45 we sleep.

3:45 he wakes me up making fussy noises and wont take the paci.

3:45-3:55 i hold him in my lap to settle him down to sleep

3:55 – 4:10 we sleep again

4:10 – 4:20 he wakes me up with stirring/fussy noises but stays asleep in the crib

4:20 – 4:36 we sleep

4:36 wakes me up with fussy noises a minute but goes back to sleep

4:36 – 5:15 finally asleep

5:15 time for another change/feeding….process starts over again

Liquid projection, commonly known as vomiting…

There is a good thing to note – babies don’t mind eating until they literally can’t hold anymore.  We have been feeding Lucas a combination of formula and breastmilk which he has been dutifully feeding 10 times a day.  Now, this is supposed to be normal.  He cries, he gets a bottle and he doesn’t cry anymore.  Fairly simple equation.

Well this is wrong.  Most of the time the simplest solution is the answer to the problem but not in this case.  I figured he just didn’t like particular formula we were giving him.  Much like a fat person at the Golden Corral, Lucas was in hog heaven at the all you can eat buffet.  The problem being is that he doesn’t have an off switch.  Of course, I imagine those fat bastards at the Golden Corral don’t have one either otherwise they wouldn’t stuff themselves and waddle (or scooter) home.

I called Dr. Kola (our pediatrician) because Lucas had vomitted twice (vomitting is different than spitting up, spitting up is like leaking – vomiting, well that is more hitting my shoe from two feet away).  After asking some questions and stuff; he said I should stop stuffing steak and potatoes down his gullet.  Essentially, feed him an ounce, burp him, let him think about it and then if wants more then give him more.  So far that has worked fine.  He has eaten less but I haven’t had to dodge any liquid either.

It would have been nice if someone attached an owner’s manual to his foot when he squirted out…

Day 13

we went to the doc today for a weigh-in. lucas now weighs 8lbs 11.5 oz … a whole pound more than his birth weight! what a lil piggy. he is in the 50th percentile for boys his age, so right in the middle/average.

afterward we went to Kid2Kid the secondhand baby store and bought a bassinet for him to sleep in when he is downstairs in the family room. in the sims when i had a baby i always had to add a bed, fridge, tv, etc all to the nursery to keep up with the crying baby’s schedule and still keep mommy sim’s meters green. i now know how that feels…you need everything for living and for baby care all in the same place cause going up and down stairs is just too much darn work.

last night we met matt and sarah for dinner at ruby tuesdays and i had a glass of sangria…my first alcohol in like 10 months. it was yuuum.
