This weekend

*yawn* mornings are evil. i have cpr class in rome alllll day. boring.

yesterday we went to fernbank science center to work on the watching wildlife and space explorer badges. the girls made earthworm habitats that they got to take home. it was really funny how excited they got about their pet worms. they were naming them and making up stories about them. their parents were so thrilled (sarcasm) about their daughters bringing home a bunch of worms 🙂

Forgotten Soldiers

Yesterday I volunteered to man the Forgotten Soldiers booth at the Battle of the Bands fest at Harley Davidson. It was a motorcycle show + live rock bands + vendors in tents selling stuff. We (the founder lady and I) had a booth where you could donate money to send care packages to the soldiers overseas, cards to write notes to the soldiers, and coloring pages for the kids to color and send. It was a really pretty day and I sat outside listening to music and reading my scrapbooking book in between people walking by. Unfortunately, sitting in the sun for two hours left me with a semi-dark burn.

trying to stay positive

#1 the house is ours!! so apparently pauls dad had added his name to the deed at some point, so when he died it defaulted to paul 100% ownership. we discovered this when we got billed for our yearly taxes 🙂 this was insanely awesome news cause i’ve always been frustrated (esp lately) that we live in a house we won’t own (pauls mom’s answer to that “why do you need to own it now, you’ll get everything when i die” – yah when lucas is graduating college!!), can’t afford to move right now, and are stuck paying to fix things in a house we didn’t own. but now that we know we DO own it, everything changes. this made my day (originally)

#2 today i took the brownies ice skating. i had a lot of fun. mckenzie has cerebal palsy (sp?) and doesnt use her left leg well so managing to skate (she’s never roller or ice skated before) was a big deal for her. it was fun to watch her go from so frustrated about not being able to do it (duh, it’s your first time ever) in the beginning to being able to do it and having fun. the other girls i think had fun, too, altho they mostly wizzed by me. apparently i can no longer skate.

#3 as i was leaving the rink lisa called and needed me to pick up michael from day care cause she was running 30 mins late. then the 3 of us went to ocharleys for dinner and a drink. i had a lot of fun hanging out with lisa (and the cotton candy martini was yum – lol which i accidentally mis-texted to steph as bottom candy – ewww).

#4 so then i talk to dad tonight. today he had a “meeting” with the aunts who have suddenly decided that they want to be involved in all this. i couldn’t make the meeting because i was at the rink, and while i’d like to think i’d speak up and have voiced my opinion, i probably would have chickened out had i actually been there. anyhow a bunch of stuff was decided and now i basically feel like the whole project (which i was nearly entirely doing with dad) has been taken away from me. dad still offered to let me deal with the war stuff as originally planned, but i guess it’s just not the same. i was having so much fun working on a big project, getting out of the house, and helping and stuff. i had visions of actually voluntarily visiting my grandmother to talk to her about some of the items and learn about her past. then today i am suddenly reminded that oh yah, I HATE THAT SIDE OF THE FAMILY.

so talk about a buzz kill. i was having such a fabulous, fun day and now i’m so upset and pissy and hurt.

Yesterday while doing “tummy time” we noticed lucas was really pulling his chest and not just his head pretty high off the ground. he was propped up on his arms with half his torso in the air. i think that’s one of the precurser steps to eventually crawling. He also rolls himself over a lot. I have to really hold on to him when holding him now or he’ll suddenly try to flip out of my lap. When on his back he wiggles himself around so he ends up in a different location…usally 90 degrees from where he was.

we are working on teaching his name. you do this by saying his name frequently when talking directly to him. like “are you ready for you bottle now, Lucas?”

yesterday he also started blowing raspberries 😛

we have an appt on friday with Dr Scott to check into the way he holds his head.

i have ice skating today with the girl scouts. im really excited about going skating, but im also really tired this morning and just want to sleeeeeeep.

4 months

Lucas has a fever 😦

He had his 4 month appt yesterday and got his shots. The info sheet they gave us said 1 an 4 babies will get a mild temp after the shot.  When we saw Gramma last week and she pointed out how his spitting up is prob acid reflux so we talked to the doc about it and he said to start adding rice cereal to the formula to help keep it down.  We’re also going to start putting him to bed unswaddled and we got a cream for his eczema.  He is now 26inches long (80th %ile), 15 lbs 5.6 oz (65th%) and his noggin is 17″ to house his huge brain (actually they didnt say what %ile that is but it was in the normal range).

Update: I took his temp and it’s 100.1 so it’s up from his 98.6 but below the call the doctor range, esp since he’s still eating and acting normal.
