new developments –

– kittens eyes have faded drom deep sapphire blue to light blue

– sunshine was laying down offering milk this morning and the kittens were more interested in tackling her instead (jasmine kept swatting her swishing tail)

– the kittens scurry around after each other more and will scurry all the way across the room whereas before they mostly stuck to just the closet

– kittens no longer hiss at dogs and try to cuddle up to them instead

– in the bright sunlight, chloe and poptart have lightly visible tabby stripes on their sides

this morning i saw both poptart and jasmine take a sip of water out of momma’s water bowl! the kittens earlier this week started grooming themselves somewhat, and chloe one time started licking me. they are so sweet. this morning they were tottering all over the closet and wrestling each other. they still dont go out into the room yet very much to explore.

how annoying i just wrote a whole bunch of stuff and it got lost.

basically it was that around day 14 the kittens started walking more and they dont just sleep all the time anymore. i can see teeny tiny baby teeth coming in. lauren is taking piper so now i have homes for 3 of them. there was a bunch more boring details but no one really cares what i write anyhow so im not going to retype it all

ive been bad and havent updated the kitten diary in awhile. on day 7 ashton had both eyes open and so did piper, and ashton had lost his cord. so by then all the kittens had open eyes and no cords. they had their eyes opened earlier than the websites said they would be, so i guess my babies are very advanced…geniuses perhaps 😛

according to my development calendar, their ear canals are opening around now altho i cant tell if they have or havent. i let sunshine out of the room this morning while i took pic of the kittens, and chloe and poptart crawled right over to me. on sunday (day 8 ) i noticed that chloe was purring when she was feeding. so cute!

theyre starting to look more kitten like and less mouse-like. they also are a bit more active and crawl around a bit more when im in the room (altho every time i first walk in theyre all asleep). ive noticed some of them trying to sit up and they can sortof sit up and support themselves with their front legs.

the kittens were being so cute this morning, i took a ton of pix. but once i got them on the computer they were all so close up and i dunno the kittens just look really odd in them. im going to post some of them up to my kitten pix in the gallery.

Chloe now has both her eyes open and Ashton has one. All but Ashton have lost their cords. They’re doing so great. I took a bunch more pix today. I now understand completely the expression, “like trying to herd cats”. i thought i could line up all 5 kittens and snap a pic of them. but by the time i had set down the 5th kitten, the 4th for were all out of line. Poptart was on top of Ashton, Piper was backwards, and Jasmine was upside down. So instead of a kitty line, we have pix of a pile 🙂

Matt came over and saw the kittens today. He’s going to take home the one I’m temp naming Chloe (i’ve decided to give them all names so i can refer to them other than “the black one”, etc, even tho I’m sure their new owners will want to give them real names themselves.) So introducing the kittens:

 grey fluffy one = Chloe

dark grey one = Jasmine

stripey one = Piper

black one = Poptart

grey tabby = Ashton

Development wise, Poptart now has both his eyes open, Jasmine lost her cord and Chloe tried to walk (well sorta a wobbly walk crawl thing).

the kittens are getting a bit bigger now. i don thave a scale that measures in grams to know how much tho. the black one and the fluffy gray ones have lost their umbilical cords (this is sposed ot happen) but the other 3 still have them. the black one has one eye open, but is still blind. sunshine is doing well, but i think she is getting restless after beeing cooped up feeding kittens all the time.

Last night around 6pm Sunshine went into labor again. She kept trying to push something out of her, but couldnt seem to get it out. She left her kittens and crawled under the bed, panting and crying. I felt so badly for her. Labor is only sposed to last like 15 mins and she was in labor for like an hour by the time we got her to the emergency room. She finally passed a stillborn kitten on the ride down there. I knew there was no way it could be a live kitten since it didnt come until like 6+ hours after the rest and since the labor was so long, but i was still so sad to see the little dead kitten. i have no idea at what point it would have died or why she didnt have it when she had the rest. poor little kitten that never even made it out 😦

sunshine and the other 5 kittens are all still doing very well. its kinda early to tell if they are boys or girls, but taking a stab at it, the vet thinks that they are: black – male, grey tabby – male, and then the brown tabby and solid grey ones are females. we could be totally wrong tho since theyre only a day old 🙂

the kittens were born today!! she had 5!!! i had no idea she was about to have them cause she was acting pretty normal yesterday, and then this morning when i went in to feed her/check on her, etc i heard this small sound from the room and i opened the door and she was laying there with a bunch of kittens! we caught the very last one being born and it had just come out and was still in its little sac. sunshine seemed kinda overwhelmed with the first 4 and wasnt attending to it right away so paul broke the sac so it could breath. then she wasnt breaking the umbilical cord so i was worried about that but she eventually got to it.

when they first came out, they all looked wet and black so i thought they were all going to be solid black 😦 but as they dried and their fur fluffed up it turns out that 3 are long-haired greys, a brown and black tabby, and a solid black one. it was neat to watch them go from tiny wet black blobs to looking more like fluffy kittens. they were crawlin all over each other and being darned cute!

Steph (my sister)’s cat, Sunshine, is pregnant and about to pop. She’s coming to live with me while she has the kittens. I’m really excited about it since I’ve never seen kittens be born or had little baby kittens. I’m going to take videos/pix of the babies each week as they grow and develop.
